Math Questions

Q1. On a map, 1 cm represents an actual distance of 250 m. Calculate
(a) the actual distance, in kilometres, represented by 7 cm on the map,
(b) the area on the map, in square centimetres, which represents an actual area of 4 square km.

Q2. Given that 4 cm on a map represents 300m on the ground,
(a) calculate, in kilometres, the actual distance between two farms if their distance apart on the map is 16cm,
(b) express the scale of the map in the form 1:n,
(c) calculate, in square centimetres, the area on the map which represents a golf course of area 2.7 hectares. (1 hectare = 10000 square metres)

Q3. A length of 5 cm on a map represents an actual distance of 1 km.
(a) Calculate the scale of a map in the form 1:n
(b) A canal is 2.4 km long. Find in centimetres, the length representing the canal on the map.
(c) On the map, a reservoir has an area of 6 square cm. Calculate, in square kilometres, the actual area of the reservoir.


4. A map is drawn to a scale of 1 : 15000.
    (a) Find the length, in centimeters, of the line on the map that represents a road 1.2 km long.
    (b) Find the area, in square kilometers,  of an islet that is represented by an area of 4cm
          on the map. 

5. The distance between 2 towns is 12.6km. On a map, the distance between the 2 towns is 21cm.
    (a) Find the scale of the map in the form of 1 : n.
    (b) Find the distance apart of another map drawn to a scale of 1 : 50 000.
